In season produce include:
Corn, beets, lettuce, carrots, eggplant, cucumber, greens, summer squash,
potatoes and tomatoes.
Berries-blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc., apricot,
cherries, nectarines, cantaloupe, and watermelon.
Produce will be at the lowest prices while in season.
The big food sale of the month is dairy for National Dairy Month. You will
find sales on most things in the diary department- ice cream, cream cheese, sour
cream, eggs, butter, yogurt, whipped toppings, etc. Did you know you can freeze
many of the products? Most will have to be used within one or two months and it
will change the smoothness of some of the products such as yogurt and sour cream
will separate and get grainy. Butter will last up to six months. For
instructions and storage times see How to Freeze Dairy Products..
The other big food sale occurs before the Fourth of July. You will find a
variety of picnic related foods on sale-hot dogs, hamburger, salad dressing,
condiments, ketchup, chips and dips. You can freeze hot dogs for a month or two.
You can freeze hamburger meat for 3 to 4 months. Most condiments will last for
one year unopened. For more information see FoodKeeper app from Cornell University. You can either use it online or download it as an app to your phone.
